I am fascinated with the concept of momentum. I can't identify the scientific effect behind it but I know it exists. I've experienced the power of momentum in many areas of life but especially in the area of fitness. During take off, a plane uses the majority of its fuel and energy in order to reach cruising altitude. The same principle applies to fitness transformations. Once you reach "cruising altitude" it is way way easier to adjust and maintain wellness results compared to creating wellness results. There is more room for life to happen during a maintenance phase than during the transformation portion. This is because it takes time for change to happen. No one got fat from one doughnut the same way no one got skinny from one salad. You didn't get the six pack in one month and you aren't going to lose the six pack because you "missed the mark" for a couple days. This is great news when you are going through the transformation journey. There will be ups, downs, and plateaus. You will become frustrated and odds are at some capacity it will bring up emotions. There are ways to make fitness journeys more simple, sustainable, and enjoyable but sometimes it won't be all sunshine and rainbows. During these times, realize that this process isn't forever. It is a short-term sacrifice in order to reach a long-term reward. When that mindset sinks in it becomes a lot easier to embrace and accept the process of transformation. It becomes a lot easier to be patient and allow time to work for you instead of trying to rush results. I don't believe that you need to be miserable in order to reach your goal but there will be inevitable struggles along your journey. During those times realize that the plane is taking off. Understand that sometimes behavior change can be painful but also realize that when you reach "cruising altitude" all the hard work will be worth it.
